About the gallery
A quiet room for slow work.
Sharjahbiennial is a curated digital exhibition space, founded on the belief that the appreciation of contemporary art deserves more quietness than the internet usually allows.
We hang one exhibition at a time, for one season at a time. Each show gathers a small circle of artists working at the slow end of their disciplines — ceramicists who fire one vessel at a time, photographers who wait for a single shaft of afternoon light, painters who measure their year in canvases.
The site is intentionally restrained: a serif headline, a quiet grid, a single warm accent. The work asks for room, and we try to give it.
Origin
A short history of the gallery
- 2019
An accidental beginning
The first exhibition was assembled in a shared studio in Antwerp, almost by accident — six artists, twelve works and a single hand-printed broadsheet.
- 2021
The first season
Sharjahbiennial moved from one-off shows to a seasonal rhythm — four exhibitions a year, each held for a full quarter and accompanied by a printed catalogue.
- 2023
Permanent rotation
A small group of twelve artists were invited into permanent rotation. Each agreed to release a limited body of work each year, on the gallery's slow calendar.

Sharjahbiennial Digital
The exhibition moves online — but on our terms: one hang at a time, no algorithm, no infinite scroll. The same quiet, in a different room.

We work with a deliberately small circle of partners — makers, houses, journals and institutions whose craft is continuous with the work we hang.

Direct artist access
Partners are invited to studio visits and a private quarterly preview of unreleased work, weeks before public release.

Our readership is small by design — collectors, curators, architects and editors who value restraint and provenance.

Co-authored long-reads, video portraits and printed broadsheets — never display advertising or banners.

We work only with partners whose materials, labour and ecology align with the slow philosophy of the gallery.
